William and Kate will fly to Singapore for the final of the Prince of Wales Earthshot Prize for Climate Change Solutions

The Prince and Princess of Wales will travel to Singapore later this year for the final of the William Environmental Prize.

The couple will travel to the Southeast Asian country in November after being selected as the destination for the third annual Prince’s Earthshot Awards.

During the event, the five winners of the 2023 Earthshot Prize will receive £1million.

The ceremony will also feature performances from world-renowned musicians and artists.

The Prince and Princess of Wales teased today’s announcement on their official Twitter page yesterday, writing: “Where is the #EarthshotPrize going in 2023?” followed by two eyes and a poll in which the answers spelled “We’ll tell you tomorrow”.

Announcing the destination today, Prince William, 40, said: ‘The Earthshot Prize aims to show the world that solutions to some of the greatest environmental challenges we face do exist. After two years of uncovering impactful ideas and innovations, I am thrilled that the Earthshot Prize is heading to Singapore, where the breakthrough solutions of our 2023 finalists will be celebrated.

Last year’s ceremony took place in the United States in Boston, when guests arrived in hybrid vehicles and were encouraged to wear vintage, recycled or reusable clothing. Award-winning Kate wore a lime green Solace London dress rented from fashion platform Hurr and paired it with an emerald choker worn by Princess Diana.

William said Earthshot was inspired by John F Kennedy’s Moonshot program, which challenged America to put a man on the moon and helped launch the moon landing in 1969. The year’s winners latest included a British start-up, Notpla, which uses seaweed to make packaging.
