Dramatic footage shows the moment police turned their guns on a suspected killer in a 4×4 vehicle after a two-hour chase that spanned more than 50 kilometres.
Michael Donald Webster, 41, has been charged with murder and a host of other offenses after an alleged home invasion and subsequent police chase along the Pacific Highway in northern New South Wales on Saturday afternoon .
He allegedly broke into a house on Ballanda Crescent in Iluka, north of the coastal town of Yamba, about 4.30pm and allegedly stabbed a man with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Daryl Driscoll, 58, died at the scene in the arms of a neighbour, despite the efforts of paramedics and medical staff from the Westpac Rescue helicopter, which landed on a nearby sports oval and disrupted a local cricket match.
A short time later, police attempted to stop a man driving a 4×4 north on Pacific Highway and initiated a chase when the driver allegedly ignored police instructions.
Police continued the chase until spikes were placed on the highway 50 kilometers north in Woodburn.
Footage shows a lone police officer with a gun in his hand staring at the suspected killer before four more police cars pull up.
Several officers surrounded the 4WD with their guns drawn and eventually pulled Webster out of the driver’s seat and arrested him.
This is as the search for a suspected killer came to a dramatic end in Woodburn on Saturday afternoon.

Webster was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for evaluation.
He was later charged with predatory driving, murder and failing to stop while driving dangerously in a police chase.
Forensic investigators remained at the scene of the alleged home invasion in Iluka on Sunday.
Shocked residents of the quiet riverside town of Iluka described Mr Driscoll as a “wonderful, hard-working man who would give someone the shirt off his back”. nine news reported.
Police are still trying to determine if Webster and Driscoll knew each other.
“The police have spoken to many witnesses,” Inspector Aaron van Schaik told reporters.
“Investigations are underway to determine whether they knew each other.”
With a bandage on his arm, Webster appeared at Parramatta Local Court via audio-visual link from Lismore Police Station on Sunday.
He will remain in custody until he appears at Grafton Local Court in February.
