Brisbane coach Michael Maguire has shown he means business at his new club and has reportedly implemented a ban on his players taking off their shirts while training.

Maguire has wasted no time in putting his stamp on Red Hill after the club’s disappointing end to the 2024 season.

During Kevin Walters’ time in charge, players were frequently photographed shirtless during training sessions, but that has all changed.

News Corp Reports that Maguire is changing the club’s standards and ensuring players always have their uniform on while training in a bid to change the ‘rock star’ culture.

Broncos stars have also been seen wearing official uniforms while outside the paddock, which is a big change.

Maguire has a reputation for creating disciplined teams and it seems he is already achieving this.

“It’s about creating the environment we’re in. I want a high standard and it’s important that they help drive it and create it themselves,” Maguire said.

‘That’s part of success. How you present yourself is very important. That’s the professional part of being a rugby player at this level.

“If the guys do well, they’ll get a pretty good result with the people we have.”

The Broncos have been criticized for having a ‘rock star’ mentality, but Maguire says he hasn’t seen it until now.

“I’m not going to judge anyone,” he said.

‘I haven’t seen that (rock star) side of things with the players.

‘What I will say is that perceptions are built, but you can change them with what you do. What we have to build now is where we want to take the club and how we want to shape it.

“I know they all care because I’ve had conversations with them and they all care a lot about the Broncos.”

Meanwhile, Maguire says he does not guarantee Adam Reynolds will captain the team by 2025, saying he will make a decision in the new year.

“As captain he’s had to go through a bit and achieved something, but he’ll be out there showing exactly who he is when he plays,” Maguire said.

‘Let’s discuss (the captaincy). Reyno is a leader. I have had many wonderful experiences with Reyno but we want more.

‘We will discuss it throughout January on what the leadership and captaincy of the team looks like.

“There are some things I will do with the team, but he is a very good leader.”
