A young father-of-two has revealed how he was temporarily kicked off a Jetstar flight after an incident caused by taking a photo of his wife and children on the tarmac.

Jimmy Mitchell was flying from Sydney to Brisbane on Wednesday before a cruise when he took a photo of his family on the stairs as they boarded the plane, a tradition he had observed on previous flights.

But minutes earlier there had been an announcement not to use phones while on the tarmac while the plane was refueling, which Mitchell didn’t hear because he had his headphones on.

Mitchell complained that there were no posted notices about the track rule and that staff didn’t tell him anything other than an announcement.

In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, Mitchell let loose on the airline saying he was mortified when they kicked him off the plane.

“This is the worst experience I’ve ever had flying,” he said in the clip.

“I try to get on the plane, I take a picture of my kids getting on the plane, in flight mode, and the lady (supposedly) calls me an idiot,” he said.

‘I turned around in disbelief because at that moment I was halfway up the stairs. I basically walked up to her and said, ‘Are you serious? What did you just call me?

“If she had literally said anything else, like ‘put the phone down,’ I would have done it.”

“Apparently, they made an announcement, but I had noise-cancelling headphones, Pauline (wife) told me after the fact: I didn’t hear it, there were no notifications about it, there was no signage.”

Mitchell said he confronted the staff member and was subsequently not allowed to board the plane.

‘I can see how she maybe felt I was being intimidating because I’m a big, loud guy. She turns to me and says, “You almost attacked me, get off the tarmac, you’re not getting on this plane.”

The father said he returned inside the terminal and, after the heat of the situation subsided, was allowed to board the plane.

A Jetstar spokesperson said they were reviewing the incident.

“All of our customers and team members have the right to feel respected when they fly with us or work with us and we are investigating what happened in this case,” the spokesperson said.
