Music fans eagerly wait for Spotify Wrapped playlists to come out at the end of each year so they can share their most listened to songs and artists with their followers.

And Prime Minister Anthony Albanese didn’t shy away from jumping on the popular trend on Thursday when he took to social media to take a look at his own 2024 review.

However, ‘Albo’ was mercilessly mocked for sharing his most listened to songs and criticized as “embarrassing”, while many claimed that he was only trying to win over young voters.

Some Australians also urged the Labor Party leader to focus on running the country rather than sharing his music tastes, as they argued that “no one cares” about his Spotify playlists.

On social media, one person fumed: ‘No one cares. Do your job.’

“It’s annoying when Obama does it, and it’s annoying when you do it,” wrote another, referring to former US president Barack Obama.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been criticized for sharing his most listened to songs of 2024 on Spotify, with many Australians describing it as “shameful”.

“This explains why he hasn’t had time to listen to those who voted for him,” said a third.

A fourth commented: ‘Yes, this will make kids wince when they see it. Oh, wait.’

While a fifth was furious: “Today is December 5, 2024 and Anthony Albanese is the worst Prime Minister in Australia’s history.”

Another mocked Albo for trying to join the popular social media trend, joking: ‘Dear diary, why don’t you love me? I know what will make them love me…’

Another added: “What’s wrong with you? The worst economic growth in Australia in 30 years and you’re worried about Spotify.”

It wasn’t all negativity for the Prime Minister, however, as others praised his music choices.

Many shared their surprise at his top five most played songs of the year, with his number one song being the hit Australia by drummer G Flip.

Also among their top five songs are Letting Go by Angie McMahon, Still Have Room by Hockey Dad, Pedestal by Lime Cordiale and Get Me Out by King Stingray.

Many also shared their surprise at his five most played songs of the year, with his number one song being the hit titled Australia, by drummer G Flip.

Responding to his recap, one fan said: “I mean this is a great PM pick, not gonna lie.”

While another chimed in and said: “You’re so aggressive for posting this.”

Others also joked that his fifth most played song, Get Me Out, could be an indicator of how the 2025 general election for the Prime Minister will turn out.

It is not the first time that Albo has shared his Spotify Wrapped, as last year he suffered a similar backlash for publishing his 2023 summary.

Their most streamed artist last year was none other than Lana Del Ray, while Taylor Swift and Australian hip hop band Hilltop Hoods also made the cut.

Albo’s top five most played songs in 2024 were not the same as many other Australians, with Vance Joy’s song Riptide being the number one local song played in Australia this year.

It seemed like many Australians were stuck in the past this year, as Riptide outperformed many new releases this year, despite first airing in 2013.

Interestingly, it’s the second year in a row that the track, which has racked up nearly three billion streams on the platform, took home the highest title of the year.

The song beat Cyril’s Stumblin’ In, Dom Dolla’s Saving Up, The Kid Laroi’s Nights Like This and AC/DC’s ’80s hit You Shook Me All Night Long.

It was a similar story in the Best Local Artists category with iconic children’s artists The Wiggles crowned number one.

However, when it comes to Australia’s most streamed artists, unsurprisingly, the big global megastars topped the Spotify charts.

Unsurprisingly, pop giant Taylor Swift topped the list that also included Drake, Zach Bryan, Billie Eillish and The Weeknd.

It was a similar story in the Most Streamed Songs category, with Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things topping the list.

It was closely followed by the smash hit Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, Stick Season by Noah Kahan, A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey and Lose Control by Teddy Swims.
