Like it Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujitsu Kaisen is a hugely popular supernatural shonen anime since the first season of the series premiered in October 2020. The series follows Yuji Itadori, an abnormally strong high school student who is enrolled as an apprentice “jujutsu wizard” at Tokyo Jujutsu High after becoming the unwitting host to Ryomen Sukuna, a powerful cursing spirit who plots to regain his material form with to conquer the human world.
Following the release of Jujitsu Kaisen 0a feature film set before the events of the first season and following the story of a fellow apprentice jujutsu wizard named Yuta Okkotsu, a second season of Jujitsu Kaisen has been announced and is currently in production. Here’s everything we know about when to expect the upcoming release Jujitsu Kaisen season 2.
Will there be a Jujitsu Kaisen season 2?
Yes. A second season of Jujitsu Kaisen was announced in February at a post-opening stage event for Jujitsu Kaisen 0which at the time had made more than $85.1 million since it opened in Japanese theaters on December 24.
Jujitsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami drew an illustration of Yuta Okkotsu, the main character of Jujitsu Kaisen 0and his cursed spiritual companion Rika to commemorate the announcement.
What Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Cover?
The second season of Jujitsu Kaisen airs consecutively for two “cours” (Japanese broadcast seasons of three months each), premiering in July and ending in late December or early January.
The anime covers the Gojo’s Past arc of the manga, which follows Satoru Gojo’s time as a sophomore student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, and the Shibuya Incident arc, which revolves around the events immediately after the end of Season 1. The first “cour ” by Jujitsu Kaisen Season 2 takes place in 2006, roughly 10 years prior to the current events of Season 1’s Jujitsu Kaisen.
Yuta Okkotsu will make his first appearance in the anime during the second cour (“Shibuya Incident arc”) of this season, following his theatrical introduction in the 2021 anime movie Jujitsu Kaisen 0.
Who will produce Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?
Anime studio MAPPA returns to produce the second season of Jujitsu Kaisen. Shōta Goshozono, known for their previous work as episode director of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen and other MAPPA-produced anime such as Ranking of Kings and Chainsaw Man, has been confirmed as the new series director for Jujitsu Kaisen season 2 – replacing Sunghoo Park, who previously directed Jujitsu Kaisen season 1 and Jujitsu Kaisen 0.
Park is currently announced to direct Ninja Kamuian upcoming original anime co-produced by his studio E&H Production and Sola Entertainment for Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block, as well as another anime original project tentatively titled “Project Bullet/Bullet”, also produced by E&H Production and scheduled to stream on Disney Plus in Japan.
Hiroshi Seko, who wrote the screenplay for Jujitsu Kaisen season 1 and Jujitsu Kaisen 0, will return to write the screenplay for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Composer Yoshimasa Terui will also return to compose the music for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, as will character designers Sayaka Koiso and Tadashi Hiramatsu, and art director Junichi Higashi. CG animator Daisuke Ishikawa, known for their work on anime, among other things Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Chainsaw manAnd Weathering with youwill serve as the main 3D animation director for Jujitsu Kaisen season 2 – replacing Kentaro Kimura and Miki Kaneda.
When does season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen come out?
Jujitsu Kaisen Season 2 will premiere on July 6, 2023. The premiere date was revealed in a preview trailer shared on the series’ official Twitter account on Friday, March 24. The trailer featured an extended look at younger versions of Satoru Gojo, the mentor of protagonist Yuji Itadori, and Suguru Geto, one of the series’ main adversaries and Gojo’s former classmate at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. The season introduces several other supporting characters new to the anime, including Gojo and Geto’s classmate Riko Amanai and Toji Fushiguro, the father of Gojo’s future student Megumi Fushiguro.
As mentioned earlier, this season will air consecutively for two “cours” (Japanese broadcast seasons of three months each), meaning that Jujitsu Kaisen Season 2 will air in July and will end before or shortly after the end of December.
Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Stream on Crunchyroll or Netflix?
It is currently unknown which streaming service will secure the North American licensing rights Jujitsu Kaisen season 2. However, given that the series has been simulcast on Crunchyroll in the past and given the merger of Crunchyroll and Funimation over the past year, it is likely that the second season of Jujitsu Kaisen will be simulcast on Crunchyroll, or at least appear on the service at some point in the future.
