Laura Henshaw has opened up about the increasing pressures she and other women face when it comes to motherhood.

The wellness influencer, 31, revealed last year that she wasn’t sure about becoming a mother and even created a podcast mini-series on the topic to raise awareness among others who feel the same way.

In a presentation for Mama MiaThe social media star further opened up about her personal experience and shared her concerns about how having a baby can affect the successful life she lives now.

“I thought when I turned 31 I would feel prepared, but in recent years, the older I’ve gotten, the less prepared I feel,” she said.

Laura, who is married to husband Dalton Henshaw, added that time and preparation also played a part in making the decision and that by the time she turned 30 she felt like time was “running out quickly”.

Fertility also crossed the influencer’s mind and she speculated whether having children is ‘even possible’ for her if she ever makes the decision to start a family.

Laura reflected on a KICPOD podcast episode from last year in which she said she talked about the fear of “losing herself” if she became a mother.

“I am truly afraid of losing the life I love and have worked so hard to build,” she said.

‘I felt very isolated, but when I opened up, I had never been inundated with so many messages from women who could relate.

‘There is a lot to take into account. What happens if I wait “too long”? I will lose momentum in my career. My priorities will change. I will no longer have time for myself or my husband. I started to ask myself: do I really want to have children?

On a recent episode of KICPOD, Laura spoke with Parenting Clarity Mentor Ann Davidman about the social pressures that come with having children.

‘You meet someone, you get married, you have children. Good? “That’s been the status quo for so long it can be hard to imagine an alternative,” Laura wrote in the caption.

‘For so many people who do not feel called to be parents, that path does not seem right. But if you’ve grown up in a world where everyone you know, and everyone you follow, and every character in every movie and every TV show gets married and has kids, how do you distinguish what you want from what society wants you to do? ? want? And if you decide to have children… does your only purpose have to become motherhood?

Laura married her husband Dalton in November 2021 and he took her last name. She is the co-founder of wellness brand Keep It Cleaner (KIC) alongside model Steph Claire Smith.
