She went on to explain: ‘My husband has a friend who is getting married next year.
‘He and his fiancée have booked an elegant mansion in an expensive area for the ceremony and dinner.
‘However, the venue doesn’t allow music after 9pm and, to save money, they actually don’t have music at all.

“I think it’s an incredibly stupid idea and I can’t understand why guests would go along with it. I thought I’d heard it all, but this takes the cake.”

What I didn’t find out until AFTER I’d paid the entrance fee was that it was a wedding reception and the couple had opened the party to the public, charging admission to recoup some of their costs, but hadn’t informed the other guests.
“I knew a few people there, but not the couple. It was VERY WEIRD to have strangers come up to us and ask how we knew the couple.”

‘As they are big drinkers and wanted the celebration to continue, they organised an after-party at a local bar/club, but they didn’t realise that guests had to pay for drinks or that there was an entrance fee. They also didn’t give the bar advance notice that a sudden influx of almost 100 people was expected. They just ‘assumed’ everything would be fine.
“Needless to say, it was not good. And we were in a high-cost tourist area and in the middle of the high season.”
