Wayne Rooney admitted he once criticized Gary Neville when his former Manchester United teammate was England assistant manager in 2016.
England were in camp for Euro 2016 in France and implemented a fun system of tagging the worst player in training on a given day.
Writing in his column for The timesRooney said: “Training in 2016 was good.” Although he yelled at Neville.
‘Taking an idea from rugby, we had a stuffed lion that was presented to the worst player in practice, and that player had to take out the lion; the photographers would take the photo and the public would know who he was.
“It was a lot of fun, which improved the competitiveness, but one day Neville got everyone to vote for me.
Wayne Rooney admitted he once shouted at Gary Neville during England training.
‘A stitch! I went towards him. I had done poorly in the ‘boxes’ (our version of the rondo) but the worst overall? No way.’
Rooney also attempted to justify the Three Lions’ shock elimination at the hands of Iceland.
‘Iceland? What everyone forgets is that they had a great qualifying campaign, they did well in the group stage and they went into the round of 16 match against us in Nice with a lot of momentum.
‘At home, they appeared on the BBC. They didn’t just get off a fishing boat and put on their boots.
