Millions of users have been affected by a massive internet outage affecting Verizon Fios coverage on the East Coast.

Reports of outages emerged between midnight and 2 a.m. EST, prompting numerous complaints on social media.

A Verizon spokesperson, responding to a user in Ashburn, Virginia, confirmed: ‘There is a network outage or maintenance affecting your area. We don’t have all the details yet.

‘We apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. We are trying to get all the information from our network team so we can give you an update.’

More than 40,000 cases were reported this morning, up from less than 100 before the peak.

Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Alexandria and Washington were among the most reported locations.

Fifty-three percent of users reported problems with 5G home internet, while 33 percent had problems with landline.

Fourteen percent reported a complete service outage.

Problems were also frequently reported in Richmond, Virginia Beach, Baltimore, Arlington and Los Angeles.

In response to a complaint about outages “throughout the East Coast,” a spokesperson said at 3:40 a.m. EST: “We currently have several reports coming from your area for service issues.”

“We do not have an estimated restoration time yet, but we are working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
