A 16-year-old Jamaican sprint sensation has surpassed Usain Bolt’s under-17 400m record at the 51st Carifta Games.
Nickecoy Bramwell put his name on the map with an extraordinary performance to break the 22-year-old record held by eight-time Olympic champion Bolt.
The three-time world record holder clocked 47.33 seconds in 2002, in the 31st edition of the games.
However, Bramwell surpassed him at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Granada, surprising fans by recording a time of 47.26 seconds.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to break the record,” Bramwell said.
Nickecoy Bramwell finished the 400 meter race in 47.26 seconds and broke Usain Bolt’s record.
Bolt, an eight-time Olympic champion, set the record in 2002 at the 31st Carifta Games
He added: “I’ve been looking at the record since last summer, so it’s a great feeling to be able to come here and get it.”
“I just stopped thinking about it and focused on the record.”
Bramwell not only broke Bolt’s record, but dismantled his opposition in the process.
Brawmell won the 400-meter race by 0.7 seconds, and also finished ahead of third place by 0.9 seconds.
The 16-year-old sprinter came to the event with concerns about his fitness, but put those concerns to rest with his electrifying performance.
