While the deposition proceedings against President Donald Trump are getting underway, US Attorney General William Barr has been stuck in the midst of a political fire.
Barr is confronted with questions about Trump's reach to Ukraine and will probably have to explain why the government was trying to hold a whistleblower complaint about the controversial move of Congress.
Trump repeatedly told Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in a phone call that Barr and Trump & # 39; s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani could help investigate his Democratic rival in the 2020 election, Joe Biden, according to a summary of the summer talk.

Ministry of Justice officials maintain that Barr was not aware of Trump's comments at the time of the July 25 call. But when Barr heard of that call a few weeks later, he was & # 39; surprised and angry & # 39; when he discovered that he and Giuliani had been lumped together, someone familiar with Barr & # 39; s AP told.
The person was not authorized to speak publicly about the issue and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, often appears in crawling television interviews as a vocal defender of the president. Giuliani represents Trump's personal interests and does not hold a position in the US government, and raises questions about why he would reach Ukrainian officials.
Barr is the highest law enforcement officer in the country in charge of the Ministry of Justice, which traditionally has a certain degree of independence from the White House.
But for Trump, there often seems to be little difference between the two lawyers.

& # 39; I will have Mr. Giuliani call you and I will also call Attorney General Barr and we will sort it out to the bottom, & # 39; Trump told Zelenskiy, according to a memo from the call released by the White House this past week.
Since attending Attorney General in February, Barr has been one of Trump's most solid defenders. In a news conference this year in a news conference, he drafted Robert Mueller's advice in special terms, even though Mueller said he did not acquit Trump.
Kathleen Clark, professor of legal ethics at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, said that Trump treats the country's attorney general as if he were just another personal lawyer.

& # 39; I think it's a bigger problem with President Trump, & # 39; she said. & # 39; For him, it seems that Giuliani and Barr both have the same job. & # 39;
Trump has often praised Barr and his efforts to embrace the president's political agenda. This is in stark contrast to Trump's relationship with his first attorney general, Jeff Sessions, who repeatedly insulted the president in public.
Trump's frustration with Sessions made it clear how the President sees the Ministry of Justice – as a law enforcement agency that exists to implement his wishes and protect him.
Despite a close relationship during the 2016 campaign, Trump has never forgiven Sessions for withdrawing the government's investigation of election interference in 2016, a step that eventually paved the way for Mueller's investigation.
Barr has been examined by Congress Democrats who have accused him of acting more on behalf of Trump than for the justice system.
Democrats have also called on Barr to renounce decisions on the Ukraine issue. However, those close to Barr argued that there would be no reason to do so because he was not aware of the Trump-Zelenskiy conversation.
The department maintains that Barr was not informed of Zelenskiy's call until at least mid-August.
Barr has not spoken to Trump about investigating Biden or Biden's son Hunter, and Trump has not asked Barr to contact Ukrainian officials, the department said.
Barr has also not spoken to Giuliani about anything that has to do with Ukraine, officials have said.

Trump has tried, without evidence, to involve the Bidens in the kind of corruption that has long plagued Ukraine.
Hunter Biden was at the same time a member of the board of a Ukrainian gas company and vice-president Joe Biden led the Obama's diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
Although the timing gave rise to concern among anti-corruption advocates, there is no evidence that Biden did anything wrong. There is no evidence that Hunter Biden was ever investigated in Ukraine.
The Department of Justice was first informed of Trump's call when a CIA lawyer mentioned the complaint of the unidentified CIA officer on August 14, said a person familiar with the case was not competent was to discuss the matter publicly and spoke anonymously.
Some attorneys from the Ministry of Justice found out about the allegations after the whistleblower filed a complaint with the internal watchdog of the intelligence community.
The watchdog later expressed concern that Trump may have violated the campaign finance law. The Justice Department said there was no crime and closed the case.
