On Wednesday evening, the Dubai authorities announced the arrest of an unspecified number of Israelis in connection with the killing of an Israeli citizen in the United Arab Emirates.
“The Dubai Police General Command announces the arrest of a number of people of Israeli nationality, after they assaulted and caused the death of a citizen of the same nationality,” a statement from the Dubai government media office said.
He added, “The accused will be referred to the Public Prosecution to take the necessary legal measures against them.”
The circumstances of the incident are not yet clear.
For his part, a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry told AFP that “an Israeli citizen in his mid-30s was stabbed to death in Dubai” on Wednesday.
He added that the local authorities are investigating the case.
There are very few murders in Dubai, the main tourist destination in the UAE that prides itself on being a safe place.
The UAE has received hundreds of Israelis since it concluded a 2020 agreement with Israel to normalize diplomatic relations under the auspices of the United States.
Likewise, Morocco and Bahrain signed two similar agreements within the framework of the so-called “Abraham Accords”.
