Tucker Carlson warns viewers that Shanghai’s lockdown is providing a blueprint to control people

Tucker Carlson warned Monday night that the COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai was a dangerous example of what could be happening in the United States — telling his viewers: “We’re just beginning to see the contours of the repression that COVID has made possible. †

The Fox news The host opened his show with a lengthy excerpt about the harsh policies currently being enforced in Shanghai as part of China’s “zero COVID” policy.

The country’s leaders are aiming to completely rid their coasts of the virus, and as soon as one case is registered, large parts of the country will be forced to shut down. Western experts warn it isn’t sustainable, and social media shows desperate Shanghai residents begging for food. A man’s corgi was beaten to death by a health worker after the owner was taken away and placed in isolation with suspected COVID.

“You’ve locked 25 million people in their homes,” Carlson said.

“You have the largest prison camp in human history.”

Carlson continued: ‘If you believe in democracy, this is abhorrent. Twenty-five million people have just lost their most basic human rights.

“So the question is, has anyone in the Biden administration, who is constantly lecturing us on democracy and human rights, said anything about this? Has the Foreign Ministry issued an angry condemnation of Xi Jinping? Is the US government threatening sanctions against China for building the world’s largest prison camp?

“Well, of course not.”

He argued that President Xi Jinping’s government locked the city not because of the virus, but because it was the most free place in his country and posed a threat to his authoritarian country.

In the city, which is home to 25 million people, the number of cases has risen to 23,000 in a week.

“This is again the richest city in China and you never thought you would see something like this,” he said.

“So the question is, what’s going on here?

“It’s not about COVID, of course. Let’s stop pretending. Shanghai has no COVID crisis.

“Even if Shanghai had a COVID crisis, we know very well from recent experience that this is not the way to deal with a COVID crisis.

So from the perspective of the central government of China, the problem is not COVID. The problem is Shanghai itself.’

Carlson said Shanghai was chosen because it was independent and home to a large number of international residents.

“Shanghai is probably the most free place in China,” he said.

“There are certainly more foreigners than any city in China. They are attracted by the trade that revolves around the historic port.

“So by Chinese standards, Shanghai is a city with an independent spirit, and that’s the problem. For authoritarians, independent thinking is the biggest threat.’

On Monday, the city of Philadelphia announced it would reintroduce its mask mandate — the first major U.S. city to do so.

The number of COVID-19 cases has increased by more than 50 percent in the past 10 days, the city’s health ministry announced Monday, but the number remains small.

On April 11, the department said the city received an average of 142 new cases per day.

Carlson said restrictions were reintroduced to monitor people.

“If you look closely, you can see all this taking shape, and why wouldn’t it take shape in this country?” he asked.

“Midterm elections are coming up.”

He noted that the Biden administration is likely to bring back their “insane vaxx mandate for federal employees,” which was challenged by a Texas judge in January and reinstated by a New Orleans appeals court last week.

And he noted that at Dallas’ Love Field Airport, two seven-foot-tall robots, known as “Security Control Observation Towers,” were being trialled to monitor people at the airport. The robots will alert security if you’re not wearing a mask while boarding a flight, or if you’re caught parking your car at the curb for too long while picking up a traveler.

“With facial recognition software, the robots can know exactly who the disobedient are,” Carlson said.

“We are just beginning to see the outlines of the repression that COVID has made possible. That’s the point, and if we want to know what the future holds, you can look at China with a shudder.

“In the state of California, the state will begin raising funds from any school that does not meet its new mandate, a childhood vaccine mandate.

On Monday, the Foreign Ministry ordered non-emergency government personnel to leave Shanghai.

“The United States does not prioritize the safety of American citizens abroad, including Mission China personnel and their families,” a US embassy spokesman said in a statement.

The order came just days after Washington said all non-emergency employees and family members of the US consulate in Shanghai could leave, and told Americans to reconsider travel to China due to the “arbitrary enforcement” of virus restrictions.

“Our change in attitude reflects our view that it is best for our employees and their families to decrease in numbers and reduce our operations as we deal with the changing conditions on the ground,” the spokesperson noted.

The departure order will be reviewed in an additional 30 days.

“Reconsider travel to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) due to arbitrary enforcement of local laws and COVID-19-related restrictions,” the foreign ministry said in a statement Monday.

“Do not travel to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Jilin Province and Shanghai Municipality due to COVID-19-related restrictions, including the risk of parents and children being separated,” the statement said.
