Tucker Carlson calls Oregon Gov. Kate Brown a ‘power-mad hypocrite’ for ‘nonsensical’ mask mandate

Tucker Carlson lashed out at Oregon Gov on Wednesday night. Kate Brown on his show, calling her decision to re-mandate an outdoor mask “nonsensical,” while pointing to research showing that outdoor transmission is very low.

Oregon became the first state to re-mandate an outdoor mask on Tuesday, when Brown announced that from Friday everyone five years and older must wear a mask outdoors “where physical distancing is not possible.”

The rule applies to everyone, whether they are vaccinated or not.

Carlson, 52, called Brown, 61, a “power-mad hypocrite” who “don’t care what the facts are.”

“Kate Brown’s decree is nonsensical,” he said. First, if the vaccines work, why do vaccinated people have to wear masks?

‘And by the way, why is someone required to wear masks outdoors? Transmission of COVID through the air is so rare that it is practically non-existent. That’s right, whether you’ve been vaccinated or not.’

The latest CDC guidelines mention that: ‘Generally speaking, you don’t need to wear a mask outside.’

Oregon has seen a steady rise in cases as the more contagious Delta strain of coronavirus rips across the country. On Tuesday, the seven-day average of cases in the state stood at 2,194, up from just 436 a month earlier.

According to state health data, about 45 percent of the state’s occupied ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients.

Brown was clear that her order only applies in places where people were not allowed to stay six feet apart.

“However, I want to emphasize that this rule does not mean that you must always wear a mask outdoors,” she said in a video on Twitter announcing the mask mandate.

“You don’t have to disguise yourself for the fleeting stride on a hiking trail or your morning walk with your dog.”

The state has already imposed an indoor mask policy for children over the age of five and requires all public school staff, health professionals and government employers to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18.

In April, Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, told ABC’s This Week that “it’s pretty common sense now that the outside risk is really, really pretty low.

“Of course, if you’re a vaccinated person and wear a mask outdoors, the risk is miniscule,” he said.

Carlson quoted Fauci in his speech along with Harvard epidemiologist Mark Lipstitch, who tweeted in April that “outdoor masks come at a significant cost and basically no evidence of benefits.”

The risk of contracting COVID outside is estimated at just 0.1 percent, with a leading virologist from the University of St Andrews in Scotland adding that the maximum risk was probably around one percent.

Lipstitch tweeted the comment above a link to a Slate article titled: ‘It’s time we stopped wearing masks outside.’

Carlson continued: ‘And a study from Ireland confirms this to be true. Researchers they are considered to be more than 230,000 COVID cases in Ireland until March this year, what have they found? They found that only one in a thousand could be traced to outdoor transmission.

“So basically Kate Brown’s order is absurd. But even if you ignore the science and convince yourself that large numbers of people contracted COVID while jogging, you still wouldn’t let people wear masks because drugstore masks, the kind everyone wears, don’t work.”

The Fox News host also criticized the governor’s bisexuality, claiming it was used to distract voters in 2015, when Carlson said there was “not much going on in Oregon.”

“He was a dude,” Carlson said of Brown’s husband Dan Little.

That’s fine, of course, but a little confusing, how does having her groom at her wedding make Kate Brown an official member of the LGBTQ exclamation point community? No one bothered to ask. That kind of curiosity was forbidden, it was like wondering why we don’t call Barack Obama half-white, what he is, it’s not part of the question, party!’

He called the governor “a stupid soccer mom who was elected because she claimed to have a girlfriend in college.”

“She withered under pressure and became irrational, that’s exactly the leader you don’t want in a crisis, and yet she was the governor, who brought her very close to God in the corona era and she behaved that way.”
