Donald Trump believes President Joe Biden won’t step aside in November because he has too much of an ego to end his re-election bid and that first lady Jill Biden is having too “good a time” in the White House to want to leave.
Amid growing calls from lawmakers, donors, strategists and Democratic Party insiders for Biden to drop out of the race, the president has reaffirmed that he will not drop out.
Now, the former president is weighing in on the future of his competitor’s campaign and says he will not bow to pressure to withdraw.
“I think it’s very possible that he’ll stay,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity during his first interview since much of the Democratic Party turned against Biden.
Donald Trump predicts rival Joe Biden will stay in the 2024 race because his ‘ego’ is too big for him to drop out
“He’s got an ego and he doesn’t want to give it up,” the presumptive Republican nominee added in the Monday night telephone interview. “He doesn’t want to do it… nobody wants to give it up like that. He’s going to feel bad about himself for a long time.”
A chorus of Democrats has spoken out over the past 10 days calling for the 81-year-old president to end his re-election campaign, but those demands appear to have so far fallen on deaf ears.
Trump also claims Jill is “having a good time” serving as first lady at the expense of her husband’s very public decline following his debate performance in a car crash on June 27.
Multiple post-debate reports reveal that Biden was seeking guidance from the first lady and other family members on whether he should continue running for reelection after failing in the debate and botching what was supposed to be his housekeeping interview with ABC News.
“I think Jill would like him to stay, she’s having a good time,” Trump speculated to Hannity. “I’ve noticed she really seems to be having a good time.”
Asked if Trump cares whether Biden stays in the race or steps aside, the former president said: “Well, we prepared for him, but I don’t think it’s going to matter.”
Trump also said first lady Jill Biden is “having a good time” and does not want to leave the White House despite her husband’s very public decline.
Democrats who want Biden gone believe he should be replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris. Asked if Trump cares if Biden remains in the race, the former president said, “Well, we prepared for him, but I don’t think it’s going to matter.”
Democratic lawmakers who want Biden removed believe he should be replaced on the ticket by Vice President Kamala Harris.
But Trump says it is too late to get a different candidate on the Democratic ticket and says there is no way Biden will step aside voluntarily.
“He has all the power, he has the delegates,” Trump said, referring to the fact that Biden ran virtually unopposed in his primary and has the delegates to become the nominee.
Trump added: “There’s nothing they can do to get him out.”
