Marty Sheargold opted not to engage in an iconic practice on popular sports panel show The Front Bar on Wednesday in a telltale sign he has changed his ways.

The 53-year-old radio presenter was hit by controversy last year following an alleged incident at the AFL Grand Final and then took a three-month mental health break from Triple M.

He has since returned to our screens, replacing Sam Pang on The Front Bar as the regular presenter took some time off following his hosting duties at the Logie Awards on Sunday.

Joining Mick Molloy and Andrew Maher on the panel, Sheargold notably did not enjoy a Furphy beer with his co-hosts, as he apparently abstained from drinking.

It’s a long-standing tradition for hosts to enjoy a beer live during the show, but Sheargold didn’t have a drink in front of him on Wednesday’s show, while his co-hosts did.

He has been seen joining in on the beer tradition in the past, as he had a drink in front of him while appearing on the show last year around this time on August 9.

It comes after a difficult few months for the comedian that began with accusations of his involvement in a Alleged incident at AFL Grand Final At the end of last year.

He was reportedly ejected by MCG security at half-time due to offensive comments he made to other guests.

But when contacted for comment, a Southern Cross Austereo spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: “Sheargold left the AFL Grand Final at half-time of his own volition.”

Marty returned to the air the week after the alleged incident, but disappeared a few days later on “personal leave,” leading to Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann replacing him.

At the time, the Melbourne broadcaster said he took an “extended break” because he had become “burned out”.

“I realized that I had completely burned out over the last few years,” he explained.

He went on to say he was inspired by AFL coaches Alistair Clarkson and Damien Hardwick, who both stepped down from their respective football teams last year.

“Last year, two guys put their hands up and said, ‘I need a break.’ And I thought, ‘You know what? I need a break,'” Sheargold said.

She returned from her extended break in January, but months later, she shared the news that she would be leaving her Triple M Melbourne Breakfast Show.

In July, Triple M confirmed that Sheargold would not be returning to the show, but would continue his podcast and his national 3pm slot on the network.

Sheargold said he wanted to spend more time with his family and prioritize “self-care” after his extended break.

“Taking an extended break at the end of last year reinforced the importance of spending more quality time with my family,” Sheargold said in a statement.

‘As a result, I have made the decision to prioritise self-care, maintain a better work-life balance and will not be returning to my Triple M Breakfast show.

‘However, I will continue with The Marty Sheargold Show podcast, along with the national Triple M show from 3 to 4 pm’

He continued: “I would like to thank my immediate team and the network for their continued support and understanding. And I would also like to thank the listeners for their loyalty to both the show and the station. Like them, I remain a fan of Triple M.”
