Trent Alexander-Arnold has criticized Arsenal’s mentality, suggesting they “got too excited” after Liverpool made a mistake in the Premier League title race last weekend.
After watching Manchester City defeat Luton 5-1 on Saturday, the Gunners witnessed title rivals Liverpool defeat 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace.
But Mikel Arteta’s men failed to capitalize as they lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa, a result that leaves the title in the hands of City.
Arsenal returned to the top with a 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday night and Liverpool – currently third and three points off the pace – have a chance to respond at Fulham on Sunday.
Before that match, Alexander-Arnold said sky sports: ‘If those games had been reversed and we had played second and Arsenal first, maybe the mentality would have been different.

‘It all comes down to mentality. I think our result influenced Arsenal’s result.
‘Possibly they got too excited and thought this was our chance, this is what we have to do.
“Maybe they overthought things, whereas if we and City won it would make them think ‘we just need to win’ rather than it being an opportunity to separate ourselves from the pack.”
“None of us have been in a three-horse race, so it’s tough.”
Pep Guardiola’s side, chasing their fourth consecutive title, are unbeaten in the Premier League since Aston Villa beat them on December 6, some 18 games ago.
They booked their place in the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, recovering from the disappointment of losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
City also have a pretty good last six games, facing Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham between now and May 19.
England star Alexander-Arnold knows Liverpool and Arsenal cannot be trusted to make a mistake.
It left Manchester City in charge of the title race as they continue their long unbeaten run.
Arsenal returned to the top after their win over Wolves on Saturday night and Liverpool can respond against Fulham on Sunday.
“Arsenal experienced it, we have experienced it two or three times, when you get into a title race with Manchester City you are on the verge of perfection,” he added.
‘You can’t make mistakes or make mistakes. If you give them the advantage, they don’t really blink in those moments. They don’t seem vulnerable. It’s a well-oiled machine.
‘That’s what they do, they click and there’s no stopping them. Giving them this advantage with six days remaining is almost like giving them the title.
“The only thing we can do is for someone to do us a favor and increase our goal difference.
“We have six games left, they will fly by.” Our goal is to win every game, that’s all we can do and try to take advantage.

“It will be difficult, but I have seen in recent weeks that the odds and the percentage chance of who is going to win the league have fluctuated with one result. “Anything can happen in the Premier League.
“They are a fantastic team with the squad they have, the coach, it is difficult to think that they will not win at this point.” [But] Stranger things have happened in the Premier League.
