A transgender woman sues her former employer and claims that she was exposed to discrimination and intimidation by supervisors and colleagues before she was eventually fired.
Diane Roberts, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, says she came to her supervisors at ABF Freight, a transportation company, in December 2015 and asked if they wanted to accommodate her transition.
She says her supervisors initially accepted her requests, but more than 18 months refused to honor them and were subjected to homophobic insults, which & # 39; he & # 39; were mentioned, her work equipment and car destroyed and forced to listen to an anti-trans Radio program.
Roberts was fired after taking leave because of suffering from PTSD and is now suing ABF Freight for damages.

& # 39; I went from being their best technician, the one where everyone came for help, to being literally treated as if I had the plague; said Roberts.
She says she came to her supervisors in 2015 and was subjected to discrimination and intimidation by supervisors and colleagues for 18 months.
& # 39; I had vandalism on my personal belongings several times & # 39 ;, Roberts said KOB4. & # 39; I would walk out at the end of the day and my vehicle was spit – either the windshield or the side window. & # 39;
When Roberts joined her supervisors as a transgender in 2015, she suggested hiring the Transgender Resource Center in New Mexico to provide free training for male staff to prevent harassment.
She asked for the downstairs bathroom to be converted into a powder room and for a few days off early February 2016, during which time the company would inform her colleagues about her transition.
& # 39; They agreed to everything that needed to be done and then continued to break any promise they made to me, & # 39; said Robert.
The company did not contact the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico, did not give it a female uniform and made the bathroom gender neutral, allowing male employees and visitors to use the bathroom, even though they already had their own bathroom.
When she returned to work, Roberts said she was called four times by the staff & # 39; that's damn good & # 39 ;.
She said someone had drawn a penis on the bathroom door and her supervisor called her & # 39; sir & # 39; and by her former name, and even gave her a new identity card with her masculine photo and name on it.
On one occasion, Roberts says that her colleagues & # 39; s have been broadcasting a radio program for three hours that has banned transgender people.
Her supervisors then prohibited the use of headphones, so the next time they played the program, Roberts could not ignore it, she claims.
ABF Freight denies the allegations and says it will fight vigorously against the claims
Roberts says she regularly missed work due to PTSD, severe stress and anxiety before she was eventually fired
Roberts regularly started missing work due to severe stress, anxiety and PTSD. She provided doctor's notes, allegedly refused by her supervisors.
She was eventually fired in August 2017 because she had missed too many working days.
& # 39; I want to hold ABF responsible and make the community aware so that other companies see that you can't do this to transfer people & # 39 ;, Roberts said.
& # 39; Madam. Roberts was one of the most experienced, esteemed and dedicated technicians in the store & # 39 ;, said lawyer Mark Chaiken.
& # 39; After she appeared as a trans, ABF Freight supervisors and staff turned their backs on her, torturing her for months and finally being fired, all because of her gender identity. We cannot allow this kind of discrimination and intolerance to persist in our communities without consequences, & he added.
