Tom Brady is unlikely to return to the New England Patriots as a player, said his former teammate and the franchise’s first-year coach, Jerod Mayo.
Brady recently made headlines when he said he wasn’t opposed to returning to the NFL at the end of the season, and even mentioned his former club as a potential option.
Mayo, however, doubts he will be coaching Brady any time soon, but stressed that the seven-time Super Bowl champion is welcome to join as a coach.
“I love Tom,” Mayo told WEEI’s Greg Hill. ‘The door is always open if he wants to come here and train. But as far as going out into the field, I don’t know.
“If (Brady) comes here, the best player playing again, you have to come here and compete.” He loves competition. But I doubt he will walk through these doors anytime soon.”
