Tokyo 2020 opening ceremony was filled with some of gaming’s best tunes

The opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games kicked off this morning and tunes from classic video games were played as all athletes from the participating countries were welcomed into a crowd-free arena. There was a lot of representation on the RPG front, with franchises famous songs including dragon quest, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Fantasy Star, and more. Perhaps even more surprising were some of the deeper cuts of Chrono trigger, Monster Hunter, Ace Combat, To deny, and others.

Our friends at polygon got the full list of songs:

  • dragon quest “Overture: The Theme of Roto”
  • Final Fantasy “Victory Fanfare”
  • Stories from series “Sorey’s Theme – The Shepherd”
  • Monster Hunter series “Evidence of a hero”
  • Kingdom Hearts “Olympus Coliseum”
  • Chrono trigger “Frog theme”
  • Ace Combat “First Flight”
  • Stories from series “Pump and Majesty”
  • Monster Hunter “Departure wind”
  • Chrono trigger “Robo’s Theme”
  • Sonic the hedgehog “Star Light Zone”
  • Pro Evolution Football “eFootball Walk-on Theme”
  • Final Fantasy “Main theme”
  • Fantasy Star Universe “Guards”

Sure, you might want to hear some of these clips from the ceremony. You have to go through some steps to watch them at home (including some free options) to see the ceremony uninterrupted. However, there are some clips on Twitter showing some highlights from the ceremony.
