At first glance, Wedge House looks like a shipping container or a dining hall at a mining site.

At first glance, the Wedge House looks more like a temporary work office than a luxury home.

But those lucky enough to enter the courtyard and pass through the main gate are completely fascinated.

The humble two-bedroom shipping container is full of surprises and brimming with state-of-the-art luxury features.

Wedge House is located on King Island and appears to be situated on the edge of the land.

The beachside home, now on the market for an undisclosed price, is set on 49 acres of pristine land and sets a new Australian standard in eco-friendly opulence.

Cutting an elegant, solitary figure on Tasmania’s dramatic coastline, it dominates the deep blue of the wild Southern Ocean.

The simple, cantilevered design and solid exterior are a discreet introduction to the opulence that lies within.

The living and entertainment areas boast 180-degree views of uninterrupted coastline.

The spacious modern kitchen with sleek concrete floors is finished with black and stainless steel accents and opens to an ever-changing ocean view.

Solitary and serene, the house’s predominantly black and concrete interiors could make it feel cold, but the use of textured wood along the walls gives it a cozy atmosphere.

The house was designed by Hobart-based firm 1+2 Architecture, whose architects work with the “elements” and “moods” of Tasmania.

‘Wedge House offers the quintessential change of course opportunity to embrace sustainable coastal living surrounded by stunning beachfront on pristine grounds,’ said listing agent Sue Gratton of Circe Heritage and Lifestyle.

Ms Gratton said the wood was sourced locally from cuts of Macrocarpa pine of various thicknesses to create a type of “installation”.
