Wonka star Timothee Chalamet has caused chaos among screaming fans in New York by performing in his own stunt contest.

Competitors at the event told DailyMail.com that the Dune actor arrived unexpectedly, leading to “crazy” scenes as New York police intervened to disperse the crazed fans.

At least one Chalamet lookalike was dragged in handcuffs from Washington Square Park on Sunday afternoon as the crowd chanted, “Let him go!”

“It was really fun, like a show,” viewer Megan Hattie Stahl, 33, told Daily Mail.com. ‘The people who filmed it and the people who reacted to the police became another layer of the show. “It was just absurd.”

Fans traveled from as far away as St Louis, Missouri and River Falls, Wisconsin for a chance at a $50 prize for best double, but they got more than they bargained for.

Competitor Noah Wilde, 23, said The contest was ranked by public voting, with people shouting for their favorite Chalamet.

He told DailyMail.com the crowd was “thick” as police swooped in to try to disperse the youths.

“They pushed a kid and then started yelling like ‘why the hell would you push me?’ and they made a small circle,” he said.

“They ended up arrested.”

But the drama was far from over, and stunned fans were shocked when the real actor showed up unannounced.

“Then the real Timothee Chalamet showed up and gave (the winner) a hug. It was crazy,” Wilde said.

After police arrived, the competition members moved to Mercer Playground, where they began a speed-dating session with female admirers.
