While discussing the origins of the song, Haddish said that it captures the spirit of female empowerment and overcoming obstacles, during an interview with Billboard.

“I hate to see you this way / Lying in your bed, with your head covered, thinking it’s all over,” the Los Angeles native, 44, sings on the upbeat anthem. ‘But it’s not, just stop / And woman up.’

“I am beyond excited to share this amazing song Woman Up with the world,” the Girls Trip actress said in a statement with the publication. ‘Collaborating with legendary songwriter Diane Warren has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. The essence of this song accurately describes how I motivate myself daily and get up when I need it most.’

‘It was fantastic working with Tiffany on Woman Up. It’s a song about getting knocked down and getting back up,’ added Warren, 67. ‘Tiffany makes you believe every word, that nothing can stop you or bring you down.’

Warren’s track record as a songwriter bodes well for Haddish, considering she has written nine No. 1 songs and has 33 songs in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 during her career.

Her career as a composer for other musical artists dates back to the 1980s and includes Rhythm Of The Night (DeBarge, 1985), Who Will You Run To (Heart, 1987), If I Could Turn Back Time (Cher, 1989), When I’m Back on My Feet Again (Michael Bolton, 1990) and Because You Loved Me (Celine Dion, 1996).

While many of those artists are considered pop stars, Warren’s reach across genres also includes country, rock and dance songs such as How Do I Live (LeAnn Rimes, 1997), I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing ( Aerosmith, 1998), Music Of My Hear (Gloria Estefan and NSYNC, 1999), I Turn to You (Christina Aguilera, 2000), and more recently Say Don’t Go (Taylor’s Version) (Taylor Swift, 2023), among others.
