But while many guests dazzled with their looks, several fell short and suffered from fashion faux pas.

Senator Jacqui Lambie, who stole the show last year, caused quite a stir when she arrived in a dazzling blue feathered dress.

She wore her hair up in a high bun and accessorized with a large necklace and a blue handbag.

Unfortunately, the bright blue hue didn’t flatter her skin tone and the fluffy hem was an unnecessary addition.

Australia’s Youth Minister Anne Aly also turned heads for all the wrong reasons in a floral knitted dress.

The daring dress, which featured a colourful floral sash, was accessorised with a matching black knitted bag and sparkly heels.

Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth missed the mark in a figure-hugging tie-dye dress.

Meanwhile, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young attracted attention for all the wrong reasons when she appeared in a see-through dress.

The Green Party politician’s skin-coloured corset and skimpy underwear were exposed to the bright flashes of the cameras.

Home Secretary Clare O’Neil also suffered a fashion faux pas in a mismatched red strapless top and flared trousers ensemble.

She completed her look with red hoop earrings and wore shiny gold shoes as she posed alongside actress Rachel Griffiths.

Lidia Thorpe, never one to shy away from controversy, arrived in a pro-Palestine dress with the divisive phrase “From the river to the sea” embroidered on the front.

Her white dress also had a blood stain on the bottom and her bag said ‘Love Harder’.

Federal Teal Zali Steggles also failed in the attempt, as she arrived in a white and silver dress that featured extra layers in the front.

Unfortunately, it seemed like she was wearing the dress and not the other way around.

Meanwhile, Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic’s fiancée Fiona Scott chose a strapless red maxi dress that featured quirky detailing at the very daring slit.

She risked a serious wardrobe malfunction when she put her best foot forward on the red carpet in a fire engine dress.
