Hundreds of shoppers have been left stunned after discovering a “new” way to get huge discounts at Australian electronics stores – even though many have been doing it for years.
Jillie Clark, from Sydney, has been arguing with her co-workers for weeks about whether it is “common knowledge” to ask the seller for a better price for products in the store.
“They’re trying to tell me that if you go to a Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi (or) Bing Lee, the price advertised for an item is not the price you have to pay,” Jillie said in a TikTok. video.
‘I was like…excuse me? She had never heard this before! There is no way for this to be common knowledge.
‘Did you know this?! Am I the idiot who pays full price for things? she captioned the clip.

A debate ensued in the comments with many admitting they had “no idea” about the information, while others, including employees, confirmed it to be true.
Customers simply need to ask, “Is this the best price?” about the desired product to possibly receive a discount.
Jillie claimed she was told to “haggle” with the store clerk for a lower price.
However, he added: ‘My anxiety could never haggle with someone over the price of a tripod. No absolutely not.’

The video quickly surpassed 60,000 views and hundreds of people debated whether the clue was public knowledge.
‘Okay, I didn’t know,’ one person wrote, another said: ‘What! No, i did not know.’
“I’ve never heard this before,” confessed a third.
‘THAT?! “In no way is this common knowledge, I had no idea,” someone else added.
No way! “I didn’t know,” said one more, another was “blown away” by the idea.
Others claimed that they had known the clue for years and had managed to save hundreds.
‘Yes it’s true! “We did it with a TV recently,” one person said.
“I only know this because my dad does it, I’m too scared to do it,” another wrote, someone else said: “I’ve never paid full price at JB Hi-Fi or Harvey Norman.”
Several employees also joined the conversation, with one person writing: “I work at Harvey Norman and if you’re very kind I’ll give you a discount without asking.” But if a customer is rude, I will make him pay the price of the ticket.
‘As a former employee of JB Hi-Fi, I can confirm this. “We normally try not to reduce the price unless it’s a price match, we can only reduce it to a certain price if we put it at the lowest price we don’t make,” said another.
One more wrote: ‘I knew because I worked at JB Hi-Fi. It’s not necessarily haggling, often places will have it cheaper, but you’re already in a certain store, so you ask them to match the price, or you can get a discount if you do.
