PSG veteran defender Thiago Silva says this is not the time to talk about his future as he prepares to play his last games for the Ligue 1 side.
The Brazilian’s contract ends in August at the end of the club’s Champions League campaign, but wants to go out on a high level and enjoy his ‘last moments’ with the team – starting with the Coupe de France final against St Etienne on Friday.
He played his last home game this week in a friendly against Celtic at the Parc des Princes, which he called emotional, and now he wants to postpone speculation before leaving after eight years.
Thiago Silva maintains that his only focus on Friday is the French cup final of PSG against St Etienne
He played his last home game this week in a friendly against Celtic, which he called emotional
“It is of course a unique moment for me, but it has always been the case with the supporters, with great respect. In my opinion, it is the most important thing, ”he said.
“They asked me if I could stay, but it is not my decision and it is not the time to keep talking about this.
“Then we have time to talk. I just want to enjoy these last moments with a good mood, happy, because everything that PSG has offered me and has done for me for eight years, I am very happy. ‘
The Brazilian said the club had given him happy memories during his eight years with them
Silva said he did not intend to leave PSG, but respects the decision made and advocated questions about his future for a later date.
“It is true that I did not want to leave, but the decision has been made and I respect it to the end … It is true that there are now no conversations for afterwards.
‘[Sporting director] Leonardo has already spoken to the press. I ask you not to speak about this today because this is not the time. I’m thinking about the game. ‘
His manager Thomas Tuchel agreed with Silva, saying their only focus was on the final against St Etienne.
The central defender, who remains for the Champions League final, insisted he wanted to stay
“I can understand that you want to talk about this, but now is not the time. He’s my captain, he’s been super reliable, I’ve often said that and it’s super important that he’s here.
“We’ve talked about Thiago Silva two or three times now, but now it’s imperative to focus on the final.”
Silva, who will also play in the Coupe de Ligue final against Lyon on July 31, joined the club in 2012 from AC Milan and has played 310 times since – scoring 17 goals and winning the Ligue 1 seven times and the French Cup four times.
He is tied to the Premier League – with Arsenal and Everton allegedly interested parties.
