Thiago Silva will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after agreeing a two-year deal to return to Brazilian side Fluminense.

The Brazilian spent four years at Stamford Bridge and won the Champions League with the Blues in 2021.

In a statement on the club’s official website, it was revealed that Silva will be allowed to leave Chelsea early after the final game of the season against Bournemouth and join his new teammates.

He will be allowed to train with Fluminense before his registration becomes official on July 1.

Silva was seen taking the Brazilian club’s shirt out of a drawer and putting it on in an Instagram video that also included photos from his first spell at the club from 2007 to 2009.

During his time at Chelsea he made more than 150 appearances and also won the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

He was also named the club’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The veteran defender, who turns 40 in September, was expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

There was a strong hint of his impending exit after the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City last month, when he was seen crying after the final whistle.

His wife Belle also confirmed the news when she shared a photo of her at Wembley on the day of the semi-final saying it was her “last dance” at Wembley.

She had recently posted a video expressing her frustration with reports regarding her husband’s future, after he was linked with a move to Fluminense, as well as three unnamed London clubs.

Silva confirmed that his wife and children will remain in London while the children play in Chelsea’s youth teams, as he aims to return to the Blues one day.

Despite approaching 40, Silva has still played a regular role in the starting group at Stamford Bridge and has made 35 appearances this season.

After the defeat against Manchester City, he announced that he had made a decision about his future.
