Jamie Hector has shared his thoughts on the possibility of The Wire reboot in the future and whether or not he thinks the hit HBO show, also starring Dominic West and Idris Elba, would be as successful today.
Jamie, 48, joined the crime drama television series in 2004 in its third season as an ambitious and ruthless gangster named Marlo Stanfield, who is the head of the eponymous Stanfield Organization in the Baltimore drug trade. .
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com at Opportunity Network’s Annual Night of Opportunity Gala in New York City, Hector said he feels The Wire should be left alone because life is “different now.”
“When something goes on an excellent note and you try to rewrite the book, or you try to extend the movie, or you try to recreate it again – the mentality, the moment, the era, the people – everything has changed, it’s very different, life is different now,” he said in response to the idea of a reboot or spin-off series.
Jamie Hector has shared his thoughts on the possibility of HBO’s hit show The Wire returning for a reboot.
Jamie played the role of ruthless gangster Marlo Stanfield on the show from 2004 to 2008.
Speaking at the Opportunity Network gala, Jamie said he thinks The Wire should be left alone because life is “different now.”
When asked how The Wire would be different if it were filmed in the current climate, Hector stated: “Well, if it were done today, I think the difference would be artificial intelligence and technology.
‘It would be very difficult for anyone to commit crimes and for politicians to do the things they were doing because now there are cameras everywhere and your phone is listening to you.
“Before, we used to use burners and throw them on the show, but now that’s not the case,” the actor added.
“I think when it comes to technology, for the most part, crime or accessible crime, like just doing things on the street and getting away with it, it’s not as easy as it used to be for people to stand on the street. corner and sell drugs.’
Following the success of The Wire, which concluded in March 2008, Hector starred in several other television shows, including Heroes and Power, and then took on the role of Detective Jerry Edgar in the Amazon Prime series Bosch, which aired from 2014 to 2021.
When asked if he prefers to play a good guy or a bad guy, Héctor revealed: “I prefer to play a flawed guy. A real, rich, flawed individual who tries to find his way and, even if he finds it, he runs into obstacles. which are very difficult to overcome.’
Héctor played a police officer for seven years on Bosch, and explained that spending so much time on the set of a television show is like being part of ‘a family.’
“We create community,” he explained. “So when it comes to an end, for example on The Wire, whenever we heard that someone was going to be eliminated, an experienced actor, we all went to the set for the most part… some of us, well, me. So word began to spread.
Jamie said The Wire would be different if it were made today thanks to artificial intelligence and technology.

The Wire aired from 2002 to 2008 and also starred Wendell Pierce and Dominic West (right).
Jamie played the role of Detective Jerry Edgar in the television series Bosch and Bosch: Legacy.
“But a family is created, it’s standard for producers and actors alike, once we’ve been on the show for a long time or the show has done what it’s supposed to do in people’s hearts and minds. “said Hector.
“I think people who love creativity and people who are affected by it create a family because that bond and those relationships can’t be faked.”
Most recently, Hector starred in the HBO series We Own This City, which aired in 2022 and detailed the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it.
When asked if We Own This City was some kind of spin-off of The Wire, the show’s creator David Simon said in a 2022 interview, “This is the closest thing to a sequel.”
