The veteran Baltimore journalist and creator of The Wire called Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene a “sub-idiot” for suggesting the tragic bridge collapse was “intentional.”

David Simon responded to a post by the far-right Georgia lawmaker and reiterated that it was “port operation” and “bridge maintenance” that led to the Francis Scott Key Bridge falling after a shipping container crashed into a support structure on Tuesday.

Rep. Greene posted on X, formerly Twitter, calling for a “serious investigation” into the “horrible tragedy.”

‘Is this an intentional attack or an accident?’ the congresswoman questioned in her post amid doubts about whether the bridge collapse was a terrorist attack.

Simon replied: ‘Are you intentional or just an accident? You are a complete underwater nonsense of a human being.

Rep. Greene was among those on social media pushing a conspiracy that the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and container crash were a “terrorist attack” or an “inside job.”

The man who created the Baltimore-based crime drama The Wire took to social media Tuesday to respond to a series of posts promoting conspiracies that the accident was intentional or an inside job.

“Idiot, port facilities and operations, interstate bridge maintenance, etc. have nothing to do with Baltimore governance, but are all state functions,” he said in an X response.

“Politicizing this immediately is empty, fact-free hacks,” Simon added.

Heartbreaking images captured the moment Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being struck by a cargo ship, leaving five vehicles submerged in water and six construction workers missing.

Authorities said, when asked by the media Tuesday morning, that there was nothing to suggest the collision was intentional.

Maryland authorities are using sonar detection devices to search for crew members who fell into 47F water while working to repair potholes in the 185-foot bridge when it collapsed.

Rep. Greene posted video noting two separate moments in which the container ship appeared to lose power before crashing into a 1.6-mile-long bridge support structure.

Simon posted several times on X to counter conspiracies that the bridge collapse was intentional.

Governor Wes Moore declared a state of emergency Tuesday morning following the catastrophic collision, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. The ship, the Singapore-flagged Dali, had been traveling for 20 minutes when she crashed into a support column on the bridge.

The Democrat said the ship’s crew managed to issue a mayday call before it crashed into the bridge, allowing officials to prevent cars from passing over the bridge.

“We are grateful that between Mayday and the collapse we had officials who were able to begin stopping the flow of traffic so there were no more cars on the bridge,” Moore added.
