Many other right-wing online accounts compared Biden’s resignation to the Capitol riots of January 6, 2021. “For anyone who still believes January 6th was a coup, take note. Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. added to the conspiracies, claiming, without evidence, that the decision to position Vice President Kamala Harris as Biden’s likely replacement was manipulated. “Many Americans fear that the same DNC elites are about to once again manipulate the nomination process to get a monumentally unpopular vice president to take President Biden’s place,” Kennedy wrote in X.
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia went even further, claiming the coup against Biden was orchestrated by the “deep state,” a well-known trope in conspiracy movements like QAnon.

Then, they launched a coup against him by demanding he drop out of the race when they could no longer hide it.”
Other conspiracy theories also emerged, including baseless claims that Biden had been paid to drop out of the campaign, that the “deep state” forced him to sign his statement and that his withdrawal was part of efforts to cover up who was behind the attempted assassination of Trump.
On Truth Social, Trump fueled these conspiracy theories, claiming, without evidence, that “Biden never had Covid. He is a threat to democracy!”

Donald Trump Jr. also promoted conspiracy theories surrounding Biden’s withdrawal. “This morning Joe Biden showed up in agreement with his co-campaign manager,” he wrote on X on Sunday night, in a post that has been viewed a million times. “What was Joe bribed with or, more likely, threatened with to change his mind within hours and just walk away?”
Greene also claimed that Biden and his family had been bribed to drop out of the race: “The Bidens must have gotten the price they demanded for the presidential library that will pay for the entire family for years to come.”
This was an accusation also echoed by Representative Claudia Tenney of New York, who is co-chair of the Election Integrity Caucus. “Biden’s withdrawal from the nomination likely occurred because of an internal deal by the Democratic puppet masters with the Biden crime family,” Tenney said. wrote in X“Biden and his family have benefited financially from Biden’s various political positions for over 50 years.
