A Pennsylvania man has been charged with murder after police confessed to stabbing and bludgeoning his wife with a fireplace ghost and then leaving her in the basement of their home for two days following an argument over infidelity.
Daniel Barrett, 40, was described in charges as being ’emotional and agitated’ when he walked into Plymouth Police on Monday night and admitted that he brutally murdered his wife, 43-year-old Mary Barrett, two days earlier for cheating on him .
Agents went to the couple’s restored colonial home on Gaylord Avenue’s 100 block and followed a trail of blood through the house and into the basement, where they discovered the victim’s lifeless body.

Mary was reportedly found on the ground with a hole in her skull.
An autopsy determined that Mary’s cause of death was blunt trauma and the cause of death was murder PAhomepage.com.
During an interview with investigators, Daniel reportedly said he and Mary, his wife of more than five years, got into an argument Saturday about spending time with another man.
The dispute escalated when Daniel allegedly punched Mary in the face, after which he said he blacked out Fox56.
He told the police when he came to, he found himself standing over his wife with a fire tongs over his head, which he then used to hit her.
Daniel then picked up a fireplace poker and went clubbing with Mary several times “before it became entangled with her body,” court documents said.

Daniel said he punched Mary (left and right) in the face and darkened. When he came to, he stood over his wife and hit her with fireplace tongs
That’s when the 40-year-old allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in the lower back.
Daniel said he was going to splash water on his wife and heard a noise from Mary. Then he dragged her down the stairs to the basement and left her there for dead.
According to the documents, Daniel did not return to the basement until the next day to cover his dead wife with a sheet.
The man told investigators between the time he killed his wife and the time he went to the police to surrender, he considered committing suicide but decided not to.
Daniel is said to have hit Mary, a U.S. Air Force veteran, with a fireplace poker to the head and stabbed her with a knife
He then dragged her body down the stairs to the couple’s basement (pictured) and left her there to die. The next day he covered her body with a sheet
Mary worked in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, serving three times in Iraq and Afghanistan before retiring in 2014 and settling in Plymouth, where she landed a job as a secretary for Plymouth Borough, reported The voice of the citizen.
Mary and Daniel got married in May 2015. She leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Friends and neighbors called Mary a kind and caring person, a wonderful mother, and a devoted community servant.
“She would do anything for everyone,” said councilor Bill Dixon of the victim.
Daniel Barrett is being held without bail in the Luzerne County Jail.
