The Iraqi Prime Minister relieves the governor of the Central Bank of his post
The Iraqi News Agency said on Monday that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani relieved Central Bank Governor Mustafa Ghaleb al-Kitab of his post and assigned Ali Mohsen al-Alaq to run the bank by proxy.
This decision comes against the background of the deterioration of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar. Al-Alaq was assigned to head the bank by proxy, while the director of the Iraqi Trade Bank, Salem Jawad Al-Jalabi, was retired.
The Iraqi dinar has declined in recent months against the dollar, and the Iraqi markets have witnessed inflation that affected the standard of living for Iraqis.
