WHAT IS THE THOR HAMMER?

In Norse mythology, Mjölnir (pronounced approximately as & # 39; miol-neer & # 39;) is the name given to the hammer of Thor, an important Norse god associated with thunder.

The hammer is described in Norse mythology as one of the most powerful weapons, capable of leveling mountains.

Thor used it to protect Asgard, the celestial fortress of Aesir, the main tribe of gods and goddesses of Norse mythology.

In addition to being a weapon, the legend says that Thor's hammer also played a key role in the cleansing religious rituals.

It was used in formal ceremonies to bless marriages, births and possibly funerals. In a story, Thor once killed and ate his goats, and then gave them back life by sanctifying his bones with his hammer.

Sources say the site, which is located in the Þjórsárdalur valley in southern Iceland, was once a Viking farm.

Archaeologists also found a buckle and human remains burned at the site, according to Iceland Review.

Local resident Bergur Þór Björnsson made the incredible find.

His great-grandfather had discovered 20 farms of the Viking era in the 1920s.

"I just thought I was quite far from the ruins here and started looking just for fun," he said.

The findings have been sent to Reykjavik for future research.

Thousands of small intricate amulets, similar to this necklace, have been found throughout the Viking world since the first millennium CE.

For years, researchers have not been sure if the amulets were a representation of Thor's hammer or something completely different.
