  • Perth will follow up the Elimination Chamber with a British and Irish Lions tour and then The Ashes
  • WWE’s event is the most-watched and best-attended iteration of that show ever
  • Australia’s west coast is determined to become a destination for sport

As much as WWE proves they are a true, global entity that takes their product to every corner of the world, their hosts are also bound to become sporting hotbeds.

That much is certainly true with the hosts of WWE’s Elimination Chamber this year. Perth, the sunniest city in all of Australia located on the west coast, welcomed WWE to their Opus Stadium and saw 52,590 people flock to watch the action.

Starting with WWE Money in the Bank last year, the company, under Triple H’s guidance, has graduated from hosting international live shows to taking some of their established pay-per-views and putting them in booming, hungry markets.

This idea saw the Elimination Chamber go down in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia two years ago, while both Backlash in Puerto Rico and Money in the Bank in London, England last year saw WWE stray away from North America for big shows.

Mail Sport were lucky enough to make the trip to Perth to catch WWE’s final stop on the way to WrestleMania – the shortest journey from the UK to Australia, with direct flights just under 17 hours these days – to enjoy the WWE takeover down under .

And WWE isn’t the only promotion looking to maximize Western Australia. British and Irish Lions tour to Perth in 2025 (on sale 18 March), and so it won’t be long before England are back in contention for the Ashes with a stop in Perth scheduled for late 2025 early 2026.

WWE revealed that Perth’s Elimination Chamber was the most watched iteration of the event since it started. Australian national Rhea Ripley won the show’s main event and celebrated as fireworks were set off from the nearby Swan River.

What to do in Perth?

Speaking of the Swan River, you can zip line over that very river from the Matagarup bridge that leads directly to the stadium.

Even in sweltering 39 degree heat — yes, it gets that hot in February there — this pasty journalist made his way to the top of the bridge (well, almost the top) to zip down behind a handful of WWE stars.

I was treated to some beautiful views of the city as I shot across the water – water that was very clear and terrifyingly filled to the brim with jellyfish – and I landed safely.

Rottnest Island is another hotspot for anyone going to Perth. A quick boat ride from Freemantle (which is where the old prison was based that The Undertaker did his one man show in, a short 20 minute drive from central Perth) takes you straight to the stunning island.

Renting a bike is the best idea if you want to cross the scenic surroundings in one day. I managed to get my selfie with a Quokka jumping in an ocean so clear you can see the bottom. Was I working at this time? Yes a little.

The quokkas are present everywhere on the island and will not confuse if you approach them carefully for a small snap.

It was 39 degrees on our first day in Perth, but even when it was cloudy here it was in the mid 20s

Perth is making efforts to make itself a more attractive destination for sport and if the Elimination Chamber was anything to go by, The Ashes and upcoming rugby tours will be successful showcases.

Luckily for them, a lot of the area’s natural beauty and a vibrant city make it easy to head to the west side of Down Under.
