The Easter buy thousands are purchasing this year after a mega lull in 2023: ‘It’s back with a bang’

Australians are preparing for the upcoming Easter weekend the best way they know how – by stocking up on delicious chocolate.

And one surprising Easter purchase has shot to the top of shopping lists this year, along with several other new contenders.

Cadbury’s Creme Egg ($2.20) has been flying off the shelves for the past few weeks, and food lovers have been going crazy for this unique treat.

IGA Australia told FEMAIL that more than 4,000kg of cream eggs have been purchased so far, with numbers expected to rise as the long weekend approaches.

The increase in demand is particularly surprising considering that Creme Egg didn’t even make the top 10 most popular chocolates of 2023.

The egg consists of a hard milk chocolate shell covering a sweet, sticky filling made of fondant.

However, foodies went similarly wild over the Creme Egg Tub ($12) earlier this year, which transforms chocolate into a frozen dessert with a surprise core.

The sweet treat was accompanied by the Creme Egg ice cream stick ($9.50 for a pack of four) which returned by popular demand, after Australians spent months begging the confectionery brand for a year-round launch.

The most popular Easter treats of 2024 consist of a Cadbury arsenal including: Creme Egg, Marshmallow Eggs, Dairy Milk Egg Pouches, Caramello Eggs, Turkish Delight and Hollow Eggs.

The Lindt Lindor egg is also one of the best options.

Australians shared their love for Creme Eggs online, with many rating the purchase five stars.

“I’m obsessed with these eggs, I look forward to them every year,” said one shopper.

“All my grandchildren will only eat eggs and cream,” said another. “I need to stock up.”

“I put a bunch of these in the popsicle jar in my office and it never fails to draw people to my desk several times a day to get that chocolate fix,” one office worker revealed.
