Salim Mehajer was arrested less than two weeks after being released from prison.

The former deputy mayor of the Auburn city council was arrested on Monday after breaking the deposit.

The 32-year-old allegedly used his cell phone to contact witnesses in ongoing lawsuits.

He was transferred to Lidcombe police station, on the western outskirts of Sydney, and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

The controversial businessman ran free from Cooma Correctional Center, in the south of NSW, after eleven months behind the bars for manipulating a 2012 municipal election.
