A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a law firm employee who jumped 30ft to her death from a hotel balcony in Ibiza.

Robyn Eve Maines, 24, was described as “beautiful inside and out and with everything left to live for” by her close family following her tragic death at the San Antonio resort in September 2022.

The law graduate from Wallasey, Wirral, was on holiday with her partner, who is believed to have been with her when she fell and alerted hotel reception staff.

At the time, authorities on the Spanish island said they had “ruled out the involvement” of anyone else in the latest tragic death of a British tourist on the island, saying it was not being treated as a crime.

But in a dramatic twist ahead of the second anniversary of her death, Merseyside Police have today revealed that a 27-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

After being interviewed, he was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Launching an appeal for witnesses to come forward, detectives today said Ms Maines’ death was being treated as “unexplained”.

In response, her heartbroken family said: “We just want justice for Robyn.”

Mrs Maines and her partner were staying at the four-star adults-only Hotel Rosamar, just a short walk from Cala de Bou beach in the west of the island and a short drive from San Antonio.

Her body was discovered at 8.30am on Sunday 25 September 2022 after falling from a second floor balcony.

At the time, her mother Claire said: “Our beautiful 24-year-old daughter has sadly passed away after falling 30ft from her balcony. We have no words to express it. We are truly heartbroken.”

Her brother Cam added: ‘She will always be loved and remembered for the fantastic person she is.

“Our hearts bleed for the loss of someone so special. I love you, big sister, and always will.”

Launching an online fundraiser to repatriate her body and cover funeral costs, Ms Maines’ aunt Diane Morrisey described her as “a beautiful person inside and out with everything left to live for”.

He said his niece had graduated from college after studying law and then went on to work for a law firm.

“To say the family is devastated is an understatement,” she wrote.

“All we know for now is that Robyn had fallen 30 feet from her balcony and police investigations are still ongoing.”

In tribute, her employer, CEL Solicitors, described Ms Maines as “a much-loved and incredibly valued member of our team”.

At the time, a source from the Civil Guard said: ‘The autopsy has been carried out and the involvement of another person in the death of this woman has been ruled out.

“It did not occur as a result of a crime.”

‘Were you there in 2022 and did you see or hear anything or have any other information that could help us with our investigation?’

In a statement released by Ms Maines’ family they said: ‘Our beautiful daughter Robyn Eve Maines was tragically taken from us on 25th September 2022 at the Rosamar Hotel in Ibiza.

The latest tragedy to hit the island occurred last month, when 19-year-old law student Emma Ramsay was on vacation with friends in San Antonio and fell from the sixth-floor balcony of the Vibra District Hotel.

Paramedics attended the scene but the University of Strathclyde student was pronounced dead at the scene.

In June 2023, amateur footballer John McKenna, 22, from Carlisle in Cumbria, died at the same resort after falling from a three-star hotel.
