A small pub has made customers laugh with its hilarious retro parody video in which it asks customers not to steal its pint glasses.
The Central Hotel in Beaconsfield, on Melbourne’s southeastern outskirts, last week shared a clip recreating the classic “you wouldn’t steal a car” hacking advert that appeared on DVDs in the 2000s.
The short clip began with “You wouldn’t steal our menus” before saying the same about their bar mats and furniture.
Finally the pub asked: “Please don’t steal our Guinness glasses.”
However, the video apparently had the opposite effect: dozens of commenters saw the clip as “an invitation.”
The Central Hotel in Beaconsfield, on Melbourne’s southeastern outskirts, shared a parody of the “you wouldn’t steal a car” DVD piracy advert from the 2000s.
The pub asked its customers to stop stealing its Guinness glasses, comparing them to its menus, rugs and furniture.
“Look, but that’s where you’re wrong, I’m taking it all,” one wrote.
“At about $10 for a beer, I guess I’ll stick with the glass,” said another.
“I’d actually go for a bar mat,” wrote another.
“Challenge accepted,” said another.
Other comments from fellow pub workers shared the strange things they saw stolen from Australian venues.
‘As someone who works in pubs, what do you mean? “Some people stole cutlery, salt and pepper shakers, Christmas decorations, menus, tried to steal the bar mats, and someone even tried to take our trestle table,” one wrote.
“The most fun at work have been the soap dispensers and multiple toilet brushes,” said another.
Some commenters even admitted to stealing from their locals.
‘I have stolen plants from my premises before. “They went through a plant renovation phase and I went through a drunken robbery phase,” one of them said.
“I have a cupboard full of glasses in my house that may or may not have come from the pub,” wrote another.
