A helicopter and medical personnel arrived at the scene but could only confirm that Reginato had died instantly.

She was reportedly an experienced mountaineer who had taught at a mountaineering school for 20 years.

Reginato had reportedly fallen hundreds of meters into the ravine and rescuers had to use a 20-meter winch to recover his body.

Images of Reginato show her smiling and laughing as she hangs from rocky boulders wearing helmets and safety gear.

The mountaineering school paid tribute to Reginato on social networks after his death, reported The Dolomites.

It said: ‘Dear Monica, a few hours ago you left on a new and long journey, the most mysterious of all journeys.

‘After many years caressing the snow and rock, you have chosen the most beloved environment to live another adventure, this time the last, to say the least, discouraging one.

‘After a sleepless night we still can’t make sense of what happened, we are lost and confused but as soon as we close our eyes, your serene look and your smile appear in the darkness.

‘We already know it will be extremely difficult. Your enthusiasm was an inspiration to us all, your vitality gave us strength, and your optimism illuminated every space as soon as you crossed the threshold.

‘You have given a lot to our group: as a volunteer instructor, you have taken dozens of students by the hand, transmitting to them the passion for the highlands and teaching them caution and preparation as essential requirements for each outing.

‘We will miss you, but your family will miss you even more, to whom we extend our deepest condolences and closeness. Dear Monica: have a good trip.’

Before he died on Saturday, in the last month alone, Reginato had climbed Carnia and Alpago in the Coglians and Guslon mountains.

At the end of the funeral, on Wednesday afternoon, his body will be buried in the Castelfranco Veneto cemetery.

It comes after an experienced climber, 42, died after falling into the 1,200ft crater of Mount St Helens in Washington state earlier this month.

Roscoe ‘Rocky’ Shorey’s body was discovered after he plummeted into the hole when a snow platform he was standing on apparently broke.

A fitness influencer also died after falling into a ravine while filming a video of him and his friends exploring an abandoned ghost town in Italy.

The group was exploring an old mountain village that had been abandoned in the 1970s after a serious flood.

While the trio was on a balcony with no railings, the tattooed influencer suddenly slipped and fell into a deep, rocky ravine.

Firefighters from the Melito Porto Salvo detachment and the SAF unit responded to the scene, but it was too late.
