A man was beaten to death by a beam in a horrific industrial accident in the west of Sydney.

New South Wales Ambulance confirmed that a large piece of falling metal crushed the 35-year-old man on a construction site in Smithfield on Monday morning.

Bystanders performed CPR on the man before the ambulance arrived.

At least five ambulances and police vehicles were on site.
