A teenager has died in a horrific head-on crash near the New South Wales-Victoria border.

The 17-year-old died after his Holden Astra sedan collided with a Toyota Hilux shortly before 8pm on the Olympic Highway at Table Top on Friday.

A 31-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy travelling in the Hilux were treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital.

“The driver of the Holden Astra, a male believed to be aged 17, died at the scene,” New South Wales Police said in a statement on Saturday.

‘The three occupants of the Toyota Hilux, a 31-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy, were treated at the scene by witnesses and ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Albury Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.’

Police officers from the Murray River Police District attended the scene of the accident, located about 20 kilometres north of Albury.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the accident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The 17-year-old’s death marks the 213th life lost on NSW roads so far this year, compared to 197 over the same period in 2023.
