Sylvia Jeffreys welcomed her first child, a son named Oscar, with husband Peter Stefanovic on February 6.
And over the weekend, the 34-year-old journalist shared how she finds motherhood as she prepares to celebrate her first Mother’s Day.
To talk with Today Extra this week Sylvia said, “It was simply the most amazing and surprising experience.”

“It’s every emotion at its most extreme and all mixed together. It is an extreme and deep joy, it is rational fear. But mostly just joy and wonder, and impressed by this lovely little boy, “she said.
Sylvia also said that she and Peter go to bed at night and only watch videos’ of their son.
When asked about Mother’s Day plans, she said she had no idea what Peter installed for the day and said, “I’m sure he’s working on something and we’ll be celebrating it like everyone else at home.”

“Hopefully Oscar will give us a good night’s sleep on Saturday night so that Mommy is well rested,” she added.

“It’s kind of guilt-free time at home with the baby, and a lot of time with Dad too, he’s home a lot during the day, so it was a pretty little bubble for us, we really sucked it all up,” she said.

Elsewhere in her chat with Today ExtraSylvia also revealed that she will be celebrating the special day with her mother Janine, who has isolated herself with the couple.
“We’re also very lucky that my mom has been in isolation with us for a few weeks now, so we’ll also have my mom here to celebrate Mother’s Day, which is lovely,” she said.

Sylvia and Peter got to know each other during Weekend Today, and Sylvia previously said it was ‘love at first sight’.
She said The Sydney Morning Herald she was immediately attracted to Pete as they “bumped into each other” in the parking lot for their first day at work.
They were married on April 1, 2017 at Ooralba Estate in Kangaroo Valley.

Sylvia added that they will also catch up with FaceTime with Peter’s mom Jenny in Cairns.
She also spoke Today Extra about the recent birth of her niece Harper May, daughter of Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough, born May 1 at North Shore Private Hospital.
“It’s so exciting that I can’t wait to meet her,” she said.
“Of course we hope to come in soon, there will be no hugs when we see her, but I think we can drop by and say hello,” she added.

Harper May is Karl’s fourth child. He has three older children – sons Jackson, 20, and River, 12, and daughter Ava, 14 – whom he shares with ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn.
