Sydney train commuters were urgently evacuated in Bankstown after a passenger set fire to the carriage’s insulation

Fire and Rescue NSW were called to Bankstown station after reports a passenger carried an object onto a train and set it on fire.

A Sydney train has been evacuated after a passenger started a fire in one of the carriages.

Fire crews rushed to Bankstown station, where the train was stopped at around 12 noon on Saturday.

A NSW Transport spokesperson said the passenger brought an item, which was understood to be insulation, on the train and set it on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW were called to Bankstown station after reports a passenger carried an object onto a train and set it on fire.

“A customer brought something on the train and set it on fire,” the spokesperson said.

The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries.

Trains in the area are running normally again.
