Hundreds of children attending a swimming carnival at a major sports and recreation facility were forced to leave the building after a fire broke out.
Solar panels on the roof of the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center in Homebush, western Sydney, are believed to have caught fire shortly after midday.
Children inside the facility who were attending a swimming carnival being held downtown were forced to evacuate the building with their swimmers.
Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the building as fire and emergency services crews rushed to the scene.
Half a dozen fire crews are currently at the scene and three ambulance teams were also called.
Some children were trying to return to the aquatic center to retrieve their belongings, police said. Daily Telegraph.
