Stunning photographs capture the most powerful moments of Anzac Day 2019

Hundreds of thousands of Australians remembered those who paid the ultimate price during their defense of their country during the annual commemorations of the Anzac Day.

Every year on April 25, Anzac Day is held, a time for those who enjoy the freedom of life in Australia to think about those who fought and died in wars around the world.

Powerful photos of this year's commemorations included a re-enactment of a funeral at sea, a traditional Maori greeting shared by Prince William and Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern and tearing veterans who took a moment to recognize the partners they had lost.

Elephant Rock on the Gold Coast was illuminated in bright red shades during dawn on Currumbin Beach, while the eternal flame burned at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne when people gathered to pay their respects.

Heavily armed policemen guarded ceremonies throughout Australia and New Zealand, alerting to possible signs of terrorism in the wake of the devastating Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka, killing more than 300 people.

Snipers were seen perched on rooftops, balanced and ready to fire in the event of any disruption.
