Stephen A. Smith questioned Kelly Stafford after Rams quarterback Matthew’s wife admitted on a recent podcast that she once dated her college backup to make him jealous.

Talking about the off the vine On the podcast, Kelly revealed that she decided to ‘piss off’ her future husband, and father of her four children, when he treated their relationship casually.

And although the incident is in the past (Stafford finished his college career in 2008), Smith was incredulous that the quarterback’s wife made the episode public.

Smith added that he was not “slandering” Kelly’s character, as he met her once and considers her a “nice lady.”

Still, he concluded the video by asking, “What would make you think that’s okay?”

Stafford and Kelly met at the University of Georgia, where the latter was a cheerleader for the football team.

However, she said their relationship was “not that cute” initially, as she came out with his endorsement to get back at him for not committing to her.

“I hated him, I loved him,” Kelly revealed about the early days of their relationship. “I went out with the backup (quarterback) to piss him off, which worked.”

He added: “He was the bad boy too.” Matthew is so sweet… southern gentleman and all. And the backup was the complete opposite and he pissed him off.”

Kelly added that Stafford and the ‘bad boy’ backup lived in the same dorm and that he would notice her car there.

‘Then at one point he waited, followed me and got into my car. And it wouldn’t come out. I was like, ‘This is amazing, it’s working!’

Joe Cox was a backup quarterback at Georgia while Stafford was a starter, but it's unclear if he is the player in question.

After she told him to get out of her car, Stafford responded, “He’s not the right one for you.” To which Kelly replied: ‘You can’t tell me that!’

During the 2006 season, Stafford was a freshman who played as a backup to Joe Tereshinski III before taking over the starting job. Joe Cox also played quarterback for the Bulldogs that year.

Then, in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, Stafford was Georgia’s starting quarterback, with Cox serving as the backup.

It’s unclear if Cox or Tereshinski are the players Stafford mentioned in his explosive podcast appearance.
