Steph Claire Smith has opened up about her former eating disorder and her unhealthy relationship with food in a candid interview.

The 29-year-old influencer revealed on the A Life Of Greatness podcast that she used to scream at her mother for using olive oil in her cooking.

“For a period of time I would be angry with mum for using certain ingredients like olive oil and stuff,” admitted an emotional Steph.

“I remember even years after I found out what I was doing was wrong. I’d go over to dinner and the things my mom would offer me or suggest were the changes I’d gotten her to do at home and I thought “Oh, you don’t have to do that anymore”.

She continued: ‘Many of my friends from school grew up with their mothers on every fad diet under the sun, where they separated their bodies quite openly and that was their norm.’

‘I was lucky that, at least in my home area, that wasn’t the case. And that’s how I want to be as a mother now.’

It comes after Steph recently revealed how her eating disorder inspired her wildly successful business, Keep it Cleaner.

Steph, who owns the health empire with her business partner Laura Henshaw, said she began having an unhealthy relationship with food a decade ago during her career as a full-time model.

In the lengthy note written over a TikTok video, Steph said she ‘constantly fell into the comparison trap’ between other female models and the beauty standards set in the industry.

“My whole worth is attributed to how I looked. There wasn’t a second of the day when I wasn’t thinking about food, restricting myself from foods I loved and overeating everything I allowed myself to eat,’ said the mum-of-one.

She added that she would often make herself sick or get upset ‘out of disgust and disappointment’ with herself for falling into the vicious cycle.

Steph explained that it wasn’t until she befriended her now-business partner Henshaw, who had gone through a similar experience, that she decided to launch a career path in health and body positivity.

‘In 2015 we had around 500,000 followers on Instagram. It was through connecting with this online community that we knew we weren’t alone in our struggles and that we wanted to do something about it, she continued.

‘It started with a recipe e-book, then a subscription blog, published a paper book, then launched a web app, then a grocery brand, and then we launched the Kic app in 2018.’

The Keep it Cleaner (KIC) app is a health-based app that offers nutritious recipes, workouts, and mindful activities like meditation.
