Jason Demetriou’s time at South Sydney could be over after the club launched a review of the team’s terrible start to the season.
According to 9News, the club has called for an internal review of its football operations under the embattled coach following the 34-4 loss to the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday night.
“The powers that be at the club are concerned about the direction the club is taking under Jason Demetriou,” Nine’s Michael Chammas said on Sunday afternoon.
Demetriou replaced Wayne Bennett at the end of 2021 and signed a contract with the club until 2026.
However, if Souths were to part ways with Demetriou, they would only have to pay the coach for nine months, due to a clause in his contract.

The board of directors will meet on April 30.
“There’s a good chance that if South Sydney don’t get the results against Cronulla, Jason Demetriou’s time at the club could be numbered,” Chammas said.
Bennett is reportedly seen as one of the favorites to succeed his Bunnies successor, while Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy is also in the running. Both veteran coaches are currently available starting next season.
“The club feels they need an experienced coach as they are struggling at the moment with Jason Demetriou,” Chammas said.
Sam Burgess is also a contender, with the Souths legend impressing for Warrington Wolves. However, a move seems complicated given the club hierarchy siding with Demetriou during a rift between the pair last year.
