South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem caused some discomfort while watching television Sunday morning when she was repeatedly questioned over her claim that she once met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
speaking in CBS takes on the nationJournalist Margaret Brennan asked Noem about the anecdote, which is said to be printed in her next book.
In a section discussing meetings with international leaders, Noem writes: “During my tenure on the House Armed Services Committee, I had the opportunity to travel to many countries to meet with world leaders: some who wanted our help and others who don’t.”
‘I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. “I’m sure he underestimated me, having no idea of my experience looking at little tyrants (after all, he had been a children’s shepherd).”
But Noem seemed in no mood to offer corrections. “I am very proud of this book and what it will bring to people,” she said defiantly. “I don’t retract anything.”
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem faced scrutiny on CBS’ Face The Nation on Sunday over her claim to have met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Kristi Noem wrote that she met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, above, while working in the House of Representatives, which appears to be false.
The description of an alleged meeting between the UN and her was quickly questioned and described as implausible by experts on US-North Korea relations, a fact that did not go unnoticed by Brennan when she asked Noem directly: “Did you meet to Kim Jong Un?”
‘You know, as soon as this was brought to my attention, I certainly made some changes and looked at this passage and met with many, many world leaders. I’ve traveled all over the world,’ Noem responded, avoiding answering the question.
‘As soon as they let me know we went ahead and made some edits, so I’m glad that this book is out in a couple of days and that those edits are in place and people have the updated version. ‘
But Brennan wasn’t done. ‘He didn’t meet with Kim Jong-un, is that what he’s saying?’ she asked.
Noem was no clearer in her response the second time.
‘I have met many world leaders and traveled all over the world. I think I’ve talked at length in this book about my time in Congress, my time as governor, before governor, and some of the travel I’ve had.’
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is still in the doghouse for the anecdotes shared in her upcoming book. She is pictured at a Trump rally in March.
A Facebook image shows South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem with a gun. In her next book, she writes about Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, who Noem shot to death in the gravel pit on her family’s property, moments before her children returned from school. school.
Noem then attempted to give her comments an air of plausibility: ‘I’m not going to talk about my specific meetings with world leaders. I’m just not going to do that.
“This anecdote should not have been in the book and as soon as it was brought to my attention, I made sure it fit,” Noem added.
Brennan then asked who he might have mistaken Un for before claiming he had never been to North Korea.
Noem said she had visited the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, but there were “some details” she was “not willing to share.”
While former President Donald Trump met with Kim three times during his presidency, Noem served in Congress from 2007 to 2011, when relations were cooler.
Noem detailed in her upcoming book a story about shooting and killing her “dangerous” 14-month-old farm puppy Cricket. Another dog appears in the photo, Hazel, a Vizsla.
Noem has written a new book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, which will be published on May 7.
In a statement to DailyMail.com, Noem spokesman Ian Fury blamed Noem’s ghostwriter.
“We were informed that the upcoming book ‘No Going Back’ has two small errors,” Fury said. “This has been communicated to the ghostwriter and editor.”
‘Kim Jong Un was included in a list of world leaders and he shouldn’t have been. The Governor spoke with Nikki Haley in 2020 and met with her in 2021,” he added.
Fury called the analysis of the errors in Noem’s book biased, saying, “The media, of course, will try to make these small issues into huge ones.”
Noem was then asked about the shooting death of her 14-month-old puppy, Cricket.
Noem said she took care of her “untrainable” dog the right way, taking Cricket to a gravel pit and shooting him after aggressive behavior like killing neighbors’ chickens and trying to bite her.
She acknowledges in
Critics claim that Noem, who shot her dog while her children were at school, could have rehomed the dog or surrendered to a shelter that might have been better equipped to train the animal.
“The reason this story is in the book is because people need to understand who I am and some of those difficult decisions,” Noem said. ‘TThis book is full of vulnerable and painful moments in my life, full of moments when I have made very difficult decisions.
‘It was a dangerous animal that killed livestock and attacked people. We had a lot of kids running around. and I made a difficult decision. I would ask everyone in the country to put themselves in that situation because that’s what I faced. I’m talking about it because what I’m tired of in this country is politicians pretending to be something they’re not.’
